Community-spirited pupils and staff at Small Heath Leadership Academy have been working to support local vulnerable people with a festive charity drive.

This month, the Academy launched its annual Festive Winter Gift Programme where pupils and staff across the Academy joined together to raise funds and collect food and gifts for people facing hardship.

Generous pupils filled the Academy with donations of food, toiletries and sweet treats. The donations were carefully wrapped and distributed directly to families in need or donated to a local foodbank.

The Academy also joined with other Star Academies schools to take part in ‘Food for All Week’. For one week all 29 schools across the Star Academies multi-academy trust worked to distribute 50,000 food parcels and meals to those experiencing food poverty.

Enass Al-Ani, Principal at Small Heath Leadership Academy, thanked pupils, parents and staff for their hard work during the Festive Winter Gift campaign.

She said: “Each year, our pupils work with exceptional commitment to make our winter gift campaign a success. This year, despite additional challenges, they have exceeded all expectations.

“I would like to thank everyone who has helped support our campaign and for their generosity, which is helping us to make a difference to vulnerable people during these difficult times.”
